Spilled water in gear Shifter HELP
 

Hi i have a 1999 land rover discovery 2 has around 100,000 miles, everything has been running fine until April 18 when my kids put ther bottle of water by the gear shifter opened and it basically spilled about a half bottle around the bezel of the gear shifter :mad:.

On the way home it started showing a M light and the drive started flashing. So i pulled over and turned it off then restarted and the Park P light doesnt show on dash or the Drive D or the Reverse R but the 2 and 1 shows fine the 3 was showing but it comes and goes. i will be driving and it will disappear

So i thought i would let it dry out a day or so and went back out worked fine all gears show up drove about 15 miles then i bumped the bezel around the shifter and Bam the dissapered again.

the truck wont drive correct or only get to 30mph and the rpms to almost 3 if it doesnt show a D or 3 on the gauge.

The link to the shifter is all good all wires seem intact all the water is gone what can i do? please help

You can take it apart and clean everything out. Then you can use dielectric grease on all of the connections and put it back together again. There are some pretty sensitive, and expensive electronics in there.

That much water will take forever to evaporate, but it will have mostly drained out.
I agree with opening it up and drying it all out and cleaning it up.

Down load a free Rave CD and follow their directions on how to remove the console to dry/clean it out

Well months later Its doing the same thing, now i have no D,R,P,3 I can still drive in 2nd and 1st but cannot reverse. If i put it in Drive it will drive like its in first gear then will finally make it into 2nd but the rpm's get as high as 3000. Sport works fine but its odd its in Park and it parks. idk

so in sport mode it runs and shift thru all the gears with no problems other than the normal higher shift points that you get in sport mode.

Sorry no the sport light just comes on the dash. Basically I start the car and look at the dash i seen a blank No "P" for park is showing up on the dash, but its in park not moving.

So i try to shift into Reverse and it also doesnt show on my dash no "R" and it also wont reverse just rolls back like in neutral.

Then i go to neutral it shows on the Dash "N" and does go into neutral without a issue.

I then try drive and get no "D" on my dash but it will still drive but will get to only 25mph or so and wont move any faster due to the RPM's getting way too high almost to 3000.

I try 3rd same thing dont show up on dash, but will drive in third the same way that drive does 25-30mph tops.

1st and 2nd show on my dash and both drive fine.

i havent seen how it drives in sport mode i will try today. But it does light up that its on.

Today i also had the shifter interlock solenoid wire unplugged and out of the blue the Park light appeared then i plgged back in and it dissappered. I tried unplugging it again and leaving it unplugged but Park never reappeared again.
