Sport mode and manual mode gone

Recently purchased a 2002 D2. I previously owned a D2 and often used Manual mode when off-road in low gear. Never used Sport mode much but had tried it out a few times.

Anyway, this new purchase, had both modes working but the truck sat for almost 2 years and now I've brought it back to life and I've noticed I can't get the sport or manual modes to light up on the dash.

Knowing that the truck sat for a very long time, any ideas on why these would not be lighting up?

I know that the lights on the dash work as I've seen both light-up when dealing with an alternator issue. The entire dash lit up, so the lights are there at least.

Did you check that the mode switch is actually connected?

Yeah I've seen the "mode" buttons break or should I say part of the assembly that holds it into position breaks causing the switch to either not make contact or to completely fall out.

Thanks, I guess my 1st plan of attach should be removing the shifter cover and seeing fi the switch is actually connected and getting power.
i'll update.

Central Locking Problems.
I have a 2002 discovery 2 TD5. Can anybody advise me on the following strange scenario:

The car works beautifully, it only has 139,000 km, has hardly been off the road however, when we parked the car, and get out of the car without locking it, it will either not start.

This is not a big problem, it's simply inconvenient because I discovered a way to "life hack" the problem by following the procedure described below:

(1) Lock the doors
(2) Unlock the doors
(3) Open the driver's door (pretend to be getting back in the car :) )
(4) close the door
(5) Start the Disco

Then there are never any other problems.

Interestingly, if you skip this step (3) Open the drivers door (pretend to be getting back in the car), and simply lock then unlock the doors then the car will start, but only in safety / crawl mode where the "S" and "M" lights are flashing, and the vehicle can be driven in crawl mode.

Has anyone seen this? If so, do you have any suggest for a better work around.

Hi, Humphrey7. Well, today and for the first time ever, I experienced this issue with my 2001 Disco2 which I've owned since new. I read your seemingly "odd" instructions, stepped outside, gave them a whirl and, voila!, worked like a charm on the first try!! Unbelievable, really, and I just wanted to thank you very much. I wonder if my seasoned mechanic knows about this one and when I take the Disco2 in for a check-up will surely find out. Thank you again. Tom in Wake Forest, NC.
