Default Standard disco

I've noticed almost all the discos I've seen in Dallas are automatics. I have a 5 speed. Was there not many made or were the autos just more popular/dependable? Just wondering

Most of them are automatics because they were sold to parents who wanted a Suburban or Escalade type vehicle and didn't want to bother with shifting/didn't know how.

I have a 5-speed too (technically they're 10-speeds I guess because of the hi and low range) and it took me forever to find one.

Some people prefer auto. for offroading but i like manual in general, it's just more fun to drive.

although i must say i think the transmission on these trucks kind of sucks, i have less than 100k on mine and it feels like the syncros are pretty worn. grinds pretty much every time i shift over 3k RPMs

I would trade my DII for a 5-speed DI in a heartbeat.

So I'm assuming I should be happy with the 5 speed huh? I prefer it over the auto anyway. Does it affect the resell value?

Silly, Discos have no resale value! LOL

Seriously though, it just depends on they buyer. As has clearly been stated here, there are those that yearn for them and those that couldn't care less. I'd say that the auto is more appealing to the general buying public, but those in search of a manual Disco are more willing to spend a few more dollars and travel further to get it.

If you like it, then you're all set! When you go to sell, post it in the classifieds section of the forums and you'll find no shortage of prospective buyers.

Very few 5 speeds Disco I's imported to USA.
The Disco II's I don't think came in a 5 speed.(USA)

I will say that Offroading with a manual is harded than a Auto, I know as the 18 years before all the 4x4's I had where manuals.
I had to prove it to myself.

The downside of having a manual is it is harder to talk on the phone, eat a bacon cheese burger and drive in the city all at the same time.

I Europe all LRs have a 5 speed option, hell, all cars have a 5 speed option.
