Stereo Problems
Gents,
I'd love to replace the stock stereo on my wife's DII so that it can have an mp3 input, but I got her a tape adapter that seemed to work fine. But, the tape player motor started making an insane whirring noise. The music has to be pretty loud to drown out the motor noise. Is a stereo replacement an easy task? Can I just take it to a stereo shop and feel ok that the anti-theft stuff won't get messed up? Also, anyone have a good place to get replacement speakers? One of my Harmon Kardon door speakers is buzzing a bit and needs to be replaced? Thanks a million guys! |
I would honestly save the money that you'd spend at an audio shop for installation and put it towards something else. If you order from Crutchfield you'll get everything you need to do the install yourself. I was able to get the job done during my lunch break a few weeks ago. The one "tip" I'd give you is to take a hanging file folder and pull the metal trips out. They make much better removal tools than the ones provided by Crutchfield. Speakers are going to come down to personal preference, i.e. keeping the component set up vs. 2-way speakers. I'm sure there are some guys that are much more knowledgable than me that can point you in the right direction.

I've put new stereos in, I just wanted to make sure that the stereo isn't attached to the anti-theft in a way that would (worst case panicking scenario) lock it up so it couldn't be started or something ridiculous like that.

if you are not using the stock CD player under the passeger seat, there is an adaptor cable you can buy to hook up a mp3 player

Oh yeah? That I'd be interested in. Anyone have a link for it?

Affordable Land Rover, Range Rover, Radio Repair
That looks right, but I'll have to check and see if it fits. |

Maybe I' m missing something. The link says "Alpine only"...my stereo has no brand?
Ugh, you guys have tribal knowledge that I don't. :( I'm guessing this means that all of them were Alpine. |
If you pull it out, the manufacturer is on a sticker on the radio chassis. I think that company is one where you send them your radio head and they put the aux jack in.
