Sunroof will close, but not open

I bought a 2000 LR Discovery II recently. The sunroof worked for about a week and now it will not open with the switch. I can open it manually, and it will close with the switch, but won't open. Is that normal and is it the motor?

So whats the problem?
Close it and leave it closed.
Seriously, it WILL get stuck open and it WILL leak.

Sounds like the switch is bad does it make any noise or efforts to open or just dead?

If it's not a mechanical bind or bad switch (try swapping f/r switches) it may be the sunroof ECU. Mine had a broken solder joint on the circuit board that was an easy fix once I had it on the workbench.

I've swapped the switches and have the same problem. The rear sunroof works fine. I opened the sunroof manually halfway and tried to hit the switch and help it along but no luck. It closes fine. The motor doesn't seem to make a sound when I'm trying to open it.

Ok make sure everything is on track.

Make sure rails are greased and has no hang ups

Check for proper voltage.

There are parts trucks in TX for Pete's sake find one on maybe craigs list and go there explain your problem and see if they will let you try a sunroof motor out. You can unplug yours, plug there's in and try it out. It is alot of work to get out head liner out maybe be easier to order one from a parts guy to try out (i have one) if this works. Time for you to dismantle your roof and replace your motor. May be a time to fix that saggy head liner anyway.

His motor works one way. The motor should be fine reversing.

My money's on the sunroof ECU. You will have to remove the front map pockets/console and partially drop the headliner to get to the ECU to repair/replace it. The repair is an easy job if you're comfortable with a soldering iron.

Who was Pete?

Pete is the patron saint of Land Rover. Say your prayer to St. Pete and he drives out all the Rover gremlins.
