Tranny Whine

My tranny whines like a little girl. It is annoying.

I get a wind up noise in first gear, I can hear it go into second because it is nice and quite. 2nd and 3rd are also seem fine. Its when I get to 60mph and up that I get a horrible high pitch squeel.

I did tranny and t-case fluid not too long ago. To clarify, to check both fluid levels the car should be running and a slight dribble coming out of the fill plug correct?

How many miles on the truck, when was the tranny last serviced, has the front drive shaft ever been replaced?

Front drive shaft is greased regularly with 3 zerks on it. Its about 20k miles old. The tranny and t case was serviced by myself about 3-4 months ago.

Does it happen in 3rd at 60 too, or only in OD

I have the same whine.
When you are at idle or going slow - it will whine no matter what. Even in neutral.

Yes, you can hear the 1st to 2nd shift. You can hear 1st gear.
But, that's OK. You can hear first gear in a D1 too and in all sorts of transmissions.

I changed the fluid to rid the whine. no affect.

I changed the power steering pump. No affect.

Now I say oh well.

Made this video to isolate the whine noise.

I bet if you take off your serpentine belt and drive a little bit - no whine..

I also think Mike is right.
I get a high freq vibration at 65 to 70MPH.
It is a very threatening vibration almost like a buzzing sound.
Probably is my drive shaft...
Good luck to you.

It doesnt whine from 5mph to 60mph. just 60+

Tires can whine. If they are new.
Michelin tires can whine.
The original Land Rover Michelin tires had a loud whine.

The transfer case whines around 60 to 80 MPH.
As long as oil is in it - not a problem.

The drive shaft - will hum and shake the rover a little if it is going bad.
And, from what I have read on here it can break loose and spear the transmission
putting a hole into your transmission.
Not too fun.
