Default Transmission

Well I pulled the Trans pan today to put a new filter in and got my first good look at the pan. It is dented on the side facing the driveshaft. I had a new shaft put on a month ago, I would have done it but my buddy runs the shop that was putting on my tires, so he did it. I called him and he said I though I knew it was dented. Apparently the driveshaft had broke loose and hit my transmission, only denting the pan. It does not seem to have caused any transmission problems, so I will wait to replace it.

Go buy some lottery tickets, many front prop shaft "events" take the tranny with them. Old skool guys have hammered out oil pans and tranny pans before skid plates were invented....

Well I went out this morning to a puddle of transmission fluid. I hope I just did not tighten something down, because it was not leaking before I did the service.

If the pan is leaking, it can be welded as an easy safe repair.
Make sure to refil the pan again with the engine running.

Just the gasket slightly out of line. Adjusted it and refilled it and so far so good. Thanks Mike.

Well it did not leak at all yesterday, but this morning I have another puddle. I crawled under the Rover and it is leaking from around the gasket on the passenger side. I am thinking of just removing it and re-sealing it with RTV. Any thoughts?

im not sure u want to rtv the tranny pan on. that might be a nightmare trying to pry it off later on. there is a rubber gasket you use that has a nice lip on it. did you line it up right on the pan before you lifted it and bolted the pan back on?

Yup, it was hit by the front drive shaft, before I bought it, and it seems it is not lining up properly.

Where is the leak in relationship to the damage?
