Tricky Dick - Rear Axel Oil Seal
All - It appears that my rear axel oil seal is shot (see pictures below).
Question - Should I just replace the oil seal (9) or should I be replacing all components 9 - 11? Bonus Question - Since I need to remove the flexible coupling to replace the oil seal, should I just bite the bullet and get a new one? https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...3a0dc5a1ef.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...13034e4d0f.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...fed86225ac.jpg |
I would replace the centering peg and the rotoflex. Keep the old one for a spare on the trail.

UPDATE I drained the rear diff and the oil was silver and clumpy. The drain plug was completely covered in metallic goo. I think I will flush the diff out. |
Check you vent line. I have found the banjo bolt get rusty inside and blocks up. I also had my line full of mud.

Do I really have to buy LRT-51-008 to remove the centralising peg?
Any tips on how to get this out, buy a bolt with the right thread pitch?? |
You don't need the LR tool. Have a look at the video below the peg is very simple to remove.
Just remember 1 thing, the M8 X 1.25 Bolt ONLY holds the socket to the peg... it's the NUT the removes the peg!!! > |

I used a 2" socket with a m8x1.25 bolt with a washer and nut. That pulled it 90% off. then vise grips to Finnish it off
