Trouble filling gas tank
Several times recently I have had trouble filling my gas tank (1998 Disco I)
It acts like it is full and will not take gas. Any suggestions. Thank you, Mike |
RE: Trouble filling gas tank
Yes, first try a different gas station, second use the pump at it's slowest setting, if neither of those works, then your vent tube is clogged.

RE: Trouble filling gas tank
I have a similar problem with my tank. Have you recently had some recall service work done right before this problem started?.
Mine began when they added an additional gasket just under the mout of the gas tank. I have had everything replaced from the filler hole to the tank (at Land Rover's expense I might add) and it did not alleviate the problem, in fact it became worse! I have 2 stations that I can fill my 97 Disco at. Try finding a few pumps in your area that are on a slope or slant. (where the tank side can be higher than the driver side). And use the slowest setting. Also as jkid mentioned, do not put the nozzle all the way into the tank. It seams that for me anyway, the problem worsens when fuel formulas change (which they do especially in northern regions - a summer mix and a winter mix). It is caused by a bend in the filling system that causes the gas to foam up, thus creating a back-up of foam that will shut off the pump. Mine actually over-flows up and out of the tank sometimes. I have to keep a close watch on it. (a real beach in 10 degree weather):(. You are not alone, I 'll bet dollars to donuts that there are at least 100's more Discos out there with the same problem. RE: Trouble filling gas tank
thank god someone posted this thread and has the same problem. i thought i was a moron who couldn't fill their gas tank. yeah, i've got an 04 and have occasional problems with filling up. i believe its due to the the way the disco sits (height)and the angle of the nozzle. its one of the few quirks of owning a disco iguess. no solution i guess, just tryrepositioning the nozzle.high gas prices and now this....great.

RE: Trouble filling gas tank
I appreciate everyone's input. If I am in town wealwaysuse the same station.
Occasionally it just want take gas. I can move the nozzle all around, go as slow as possible, nothing will work. I try to get a few gallons in it. I can usually go down the road and next time it works fine. I am going to check the vent lines and see if one is getting pinched or something. Thanks, Mike |
