The engine is pulling a vacuum thru the intake & the flow is normally flowing from thru the engine up to the intake. The reason to install it into the intake = delete the weak plastic nipple & replace it with a PCV while also deleting the baffle that is known to always clog up & it’s not super simple to clean. The FV308 is a breeze to clean & it should be the last PCV you’ll ever have to buy for your D2/P38.

You guys are correct. As I learned, the blocking protects against pressure due to backfire. I found this very helpful: AGCO Automotive Repair Service - Baton Rouge, LA - Detailed Auto Topics - What are the Symptoms of a Bad PCV Valve

Ok a note to future folks that do this repair. Don't think you can just screw in a drywall screw without drilling the hole!
I know because I tried and just the slightest downward pressure sends the baffle almost into the valve cover!
Drill the hole and follow above instructions.
Haste makes waste.
Now I am going to try the right way and hope it works even with the baffle half way down the opening in valve cover!
If not I guess I'll have to remove valve cover!
Jeez at my age you'd think I'd know better! LOL

I had good luck except as I was pulling baffle out the whole metal sleeve came out!!! Removed the baffle and placed metal sleeve back in valve cover. It seemed to be a tight fit back in and would only go in to the original level.
My question is should I put a small bead of gasket sealer around sleeve? Is the pressure of the gases greater than a good tug by hand?
Remember haste makes waste! follow instructions!

No need for sealant as long as it’s seated in as far as it was originally you will be fine.

I could pull the tube with pliers easily. No need to remove the valve cover. People report that the tube comes out by pulling and wiggling on the hose. It is also demonstrated in an Atlantic British video. The area around the tube remains clean, although it does not seal perfectly.

OK, dumb question time (and yes, I’m being lazy and not going out and opening the hood to verify since I’m sitting on the can while typing this). :

1) Looking at the first picture, Best, which one is being replaced? It seems kinda obvious, but what is the near one?
2) Is the actual valve left in the valve cover, or is that being replaced as well?

Got off my butt (literally) and answered my own questions- mostly.

This one is going to the brake booster.

This is the one in question.

And here is where the valve is on the valve cover. So do you leave a valve here or use the same thing? Logic says you need the valve there, but I’m not sure...

You remove the baffle from valve cover & place the PCV at the intake. Location doesn’t matter at all. Previous PCV attempts used a PCV that attached to the hose, but my version of a PCV looks OEM and leaves the OEM hose intact.

Ah, that makes sense. This is where I’m an idiot: is the FV308 the valve? And do you just drill out the baffle and reinstall in the valve cover? That’s the part I’m missing.

EDIT: Ok, I am an idiot, the FV308 is the valve. Now I’d just need to figure out the valve cover side. Cool stuff and much better. Thanks for this!
