V288/FV308 PCV Install (Best4x4 Mod)
#112
honestly it was so easy that I wouldn’t be able to justify buying a new piece of brass nor risking going to small in diameter and it slipping through the valve cover.

From the factory, that whole pathway was deliberately blocked with the black plastic. Removing the plastic gets you back to the original design that sends overpressure up to your intake (and with Best 4x4's mod, only in one direction courtesy of the new PVC valve) instead of internal pressure adding to the stress that all of your gaskets were under.
It's a good mod.

I just had a friend drop of his 03 Non SAI D2 for me to replace the PS Pump, and look it over since it's been 3 years since I last worked on it. I wanted to check his OEM baffle, as oil was seeping out of just about everywhere on his 4.6L. It was the worse OEM baffle I have removed to date. It totally refused to come out. I soaked it, I tried breaking it apart, but it would not budge. I finally drilled it out it and then twisted out the remaining bits. I then drilled out the hole and installed a new FV308 I had in stock. One more successful Best4x4 PCV mod installed!

I finally convinced a fellow V8 owner in our Disco 2 club to do this Best4x4 mod. I ordered a Standard Motor Products V288 for him from RockAuto for $5 . It quickly arrived here to England in a week via U.S. Military Postal Service. My friend is chuffed/amazed by the cheap price and that the valve has "Made in USA" stamped on it. lol
He can't wait to install it.

i need this mod lol i have some "oil seepage" lol but i noticed it looking oily around the intake for some time.. I have the part ready but on my 03 just hav e been unprepared for a horror stoy if something broke off into the head.. the baffle.. seems I read it can fall in there someplace? is this correct? or is it just do whatever it take to get it out? lol My Disco has been my daily driver for 10 years and still rivers nice but I do go through oil somewhat... about 1 qt a month or less

When you twist out the tube sitting in the valve cover the baffle will be inside of it. 99-02 you don't have to twist out the tube as you can carefully remove the baffle from the top. Only 03-04 have the top of the tube closed off with the baffle under it.
