valve cover gasket
just a quick question.could someone tell me the size of the 12 point socket for the valve cover bolts?i would like to pick one up tonight.
thanks brett 2004 discovery se7 |
RE: valve cover gasket
8mm. The inside bolts are a bit ofa tight fit, so get a 1/4' socket if you can, but a 3/8' socket will do.

RE: valve cover gasket
Factory torque specs were only 6 ft/pounds, so tighten them to around 12 so they won't vibrate loose.

My valve cover gaskets are leaking how hard is it to change has anybody done this before. thank you for your inputs.

RE: valve cover gasket
Don't change them, tighten the bolts on the v/c's even if you can only do the 2 outside bolts, then power scrub your engine so it is nice and clean. You should find tighten them snug, not over tightened and the leaking should stop.
To replace them require you yo remove the intake manifold. |

RE: valve cover gasket
I just tightened mine, only the two outside ones, leaking stopped. Just snugged with a 3/8" socket and a 6" extenstion.
