Voltage Regulator_Help

2004 DiscoII battery died so we had Auto Zone test the alternator. It tested badly for the voltage regulator. My son and I pulled the alternator to get to the voltage regulator under the rear cover.

BOSCH #1 197 311 549
EL 14V
Made in India

What is the best way forward here? We can't find anyone who has the part. Is there another manufacturer or number that will work?

Attempting to save my 16 year old from an new alternator purchase.

Cheers,
G

Found a HUCO

Will either of these do the job?

No Change

Replaced the VR and got the idiot light "battery" so I gave up and took it to the local shop for an assessment.

$159.00 later, they are sugggesting a new alternator. They are being told that only one OEM exists out there for replacement and it will cost ~$650.00.:poop: I asked them at that price was it a 150 amp? The service writer couldn't answer that question...?

I told them to button it back up and I'd make arrangements for towing it home.

I got some feedback earlier about a 150 amp alternator one of you folks have upgraded to so I think that will be my best way forward... Thoughts?

Cheers mates,

Range Rover p38 alternators had a 150 amp option. Should bolt up not sure about the wiring.

The guys at lucky8 should be able to give you a much better price thsn 650

There are also new D2 alternators available from various sellers on eBay in the $150 range. 150A is higher output than the original D2 one, and it isn't essential to have that unless you run a lot of accessories.

I've bought two from "Parts Player" off of Ebay and they've been very reliable Alternators. They looked just as nice of quality as the OEM unit vs the Auto Zone units which you can tell were rebuilt on the cheap side for double the price of the Ebay unit. Last one I bought was 134.00 for a 150AMP unit.
