IIRC the first guy that posted about that stat paid $125 to get one from the UK, and felt it was well worth it. And the oem heat gauge can't tell the difference.

I know it's not likely, but I keep crossing my fingers that this single concept will be enough to prevent me from having to change my head gaskets before 150k. We'll see... I'm at around 96k now. My temps range from 180-201 constant.

This is the Atlantic British website where I bought this "warm climate" thermostat:

https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...rmostat-59834/

Their web page shows the correct part number. But the pic does not show a grey thermostat. It is white in color.

I have not opened the shipment box yet. I will get home tonight to confirm the one which I received.

I think your link just goes back to your initial post. In the initial post you linked to this page: Land Rover Discovery II Replacement Thermostat

Which is an aftermarket version. There will be a "G" after their part number if it's a Land Rover Genuine part.

I would be 100% positive that what you have is not an Original Part. I ordered the same one from AB and recieved the motorad. Here is a chat session I had with AB about it.

I just had a chat session with Atlantic British about the motorad. Here was the outcome.

me: I ordered the PEL500110 and in the box was a white Motorad thermostat. I am under the impression a PEL50010 is a grey soft spring thermostat. Why did I not receive that?
https://snapabug.appspot.com/avatar/serve?id=61035978Eric:
They come in white now from our supplier

me: and they are motorad? So I'm not actually getting a PEL500110? but a copy?
Eric: The ones that we sell are for Britpart in the UK
me: Is this a 180 degree soft spring thermostat?
Eric: Yes it is
me: Ok, I wish I would have known it was motorad brand. I have had 2 defective motorads from other suppliers in the past year. Not impressed with their product at all.
Eric: Are you sure it is the thermostate and not another cooling issue?
me: Yes. 1st one the o-ring inside was not seated and you could see it inside the thermostat and it was leaking. The 2nd one would never open.
Eric: ah ok
me: anyway I'm about to order a head gasket kit and would like to know what brand is the gaskets in your kit for the 4.0L
Eric: Elring
me: for the entire kit or just the head gaskets?
Eric: Just the head gaskets the rest are Eurospare

I understand the explanation now. My wife just sent a pic of the thermostat which Atlantic British sent to me (see pic below). It is indeed a non-genuine part.

I will return it and get the geniune one from Rovers North (as one of the early posts recommended).

Thanks for everyone for your insights!

FYI Lucky 8 also sell the genuine LR grey 180 degree soft spring thermostat PEL500110. I just bought one and installed it last Monday.

It is not listed on their website but they will sell it to you over the phone. $55 plus shipping.

Works great so far.
