How do valve covers leak coolant? There is no coolant there.

Thank you! All I can figure is possibly throttle body leaking onto the valve covers, otherwise it doesn't make sense. Your valve covers will leak oil, not coolant.

A v/c gasket can not leak coolant or cause an over heat.
Never turn off your overheating engine, that is the best way to ruin it. Let it idle with the hood don and the heater on the higest fan speed and the hottest heat setting till iy cools down.
I would suggest you have a mechanic regarding this before you act.

Mike, it apparently overheated WHILE AT IDLE. I doubt the heater would draw enough heat out to be sufficiently effective, while already at idle and the temp gauge pegged.
