A snorkel on a gas engine is almost useless in water, get your plugs wet, coil pack or anything else like that and you are done.
Proper technic is more important than a snorkel.

 

Not true, definitely not 'good', but not true.

 

I have 2 rivers right near my house in VT with miles and miles of class 4 roads. The deepest I will be going into the river is maybe just above the headlights. Also, most of the roads within 5 miles of my home are dirt, and this time of year they do not allow large truck to travel on them because they are so muddy. I am hoping I may save some money on airfilters, which I changed 6 times last year alone because of the dust in the summer. I am running a 2 inch lift (which is being replaced next week with OME springs and shocks, a new bumper and winch) with 265-75-16 Mud Terrains. DiscoMike.. to be clear, I dont need to extend the snorkel up above the normal height when affixed to the car, I just do not like the way the ARB snorkel looks....I have seen other snorkels in the past (as the Disco I pictured above st post) which I would rather buy and install...provided it performs as well or better than the ARB snorkel.

 

The mantec is what they used on the camel trophy trucks. You can also make your own which I think I may try (just to have an original looking snorkel).

 

I have the Mantec and it does save the air filters and most of the time I'm in Desert and only a few times have I used the water crossing part of the snorkel.

I have also used about 12oz of dielectric grease on everything that has power and it still make me nervous when the water starts coming up,,, much better to be in my kayak.
