Water pump dilemma
Three months ago I have finished my top end engine rebuild project on my 2000 Disco II, which I have written about https://landroverforums.com/m_19788/tm.htm
Everything went well with the repair work andthe car now has 4,000 miles on the clock since then (110.5 K total). Last week I have noticed slight coolantodor when engine was hot. After close inspection, I have discovered that the newly installedpump I have purchased from Brit. Pac. under with trademark ALL MAKES, has developed seepage right through the small vent hole on the pump shaft housing. The seepage is so slow, that the coolant actually evaporates before it has a chance to drip under the car. However, the problem is there, and it may get worse with time. I have taken perfectly good pump off, for reasons that it has 106K miles on it, and since I am doing this project, may as well. Now I do want to replace the faulty new pump, however, could I put the old one back and trust it will last for some time, or considering the service it already provided, it would not last too long anyway. What is the typical life expectancy for the original water pump?And finally, can I trust any other aftermarket pump, or shall I just get one directly from the dealer. Any input on the above subject would be greatly appreciated. :eek: |

Its not common to get a bad part water pump or anything else, but it does happen.
I have had good luck with after market pumps and OEM also. OEM pumps have lasted 50k or so for me, at 102k I put a after market pump on. (LR) On another truck is was replacing the water pump every two years until I went to a after market. The last five years of the sixteen years I had the truck the water pump was still good. Do what gives you peace of mind. |

Dear sir,just a small dilemma can turn into disaster , autozone has a good water pump there oem refurbished water pumps this won is 60 bucks And comes with a 2 year warranty,the oem pumps are 300 Bills so I bought the 60 dollar one and I have ran it for over two years with no problems at all just a thought .I have two Discovery’s 2 one is a 2001 and a 03’ and Iam rebuilding a motor now and I put the 60 dollar pump on it.These pumps are the real deal.Just a friendly idea |

Ill go back to OEM, they are always better. Sometimes its mot worth the hasfle breaking down and leaking prematurely. Airtex I think is the way to go. Cheers |
