Honestly, the battery light WAS the warning. It came on about 45 mi. before everything 'crashed'. ... But honestly, based on where I was... I would have tried to keep going anyway... and died just as I did.

Yeah, exactly. It was better to pick up my son 25 miles from home instead of a couple hours away. As least by continuing to drive it he had a chance to make it home.
Decided to try to get the '00 Disco 2 tagged up in AZ this afternoon. I made it over to emissions, only to find that since the ECU plug was loose, they would not do the test. (In AZ, you apparently have to be able to plug in the unit with one hand). So, I cruised home... removed the plastic panel under the driver's side, and cut a new rectangle for the ECU plug, and popped it back in tight. Drove BACK to emissions, and passed the test. But, it was now 4:45... so no point in running to ADOT for tags... they close at 5pm.
So... morning was driving (Gallup to Phoenix), afternoon was a car wash - quick repair to ECU and Emissions test. That's what I did to the DII today.
Oh... and I learned the front skylight pops up when the car wash blow dries my roof. (The front one doesn't work, the rear does).
I'm a licensed vehicle inspector in my state. OBD ports pop out all the time, and if i can't get my hand behind it to hold it from the back while I plug it in then oh well. It's not our responsibility to fix your car. There's literally an option in our system to select if I can't access the port and it's an automatic fail which means I'm slapping a rejection sticker on your car. I'm not sure how AZ does it but it sounds like it's the same type of system we use here. Also sounds like they were being nice and let you fix it instead of just failing it. Plugging into that port IS the emissions test. To be honest all it does it check for DTC's, it's not a "real" emissions test like some states have unless they're sticking something up your tailpipe too.

Wife's 04 has been having an issue with a dead battery, ever once in a while. It could be after not driving a week or just a day. Anyhow, dead yesterday after sitting overnight. Pulled battery, because it wouldn't take a charge and replaced with good/charged battery from past Dll that l keep on shelf for situations like this. Swap battery, and as soon as l hook up negative terminal...smoke raises from engine compartment fuse box. Hmmmm, interesting...lol. Disconnect battery again, pull fuse box, wire rubbed through on metal edge underneath. Repair wire, add rubber/foam material under entire length of fuse box, reassemble and all good.
Came in the house and was telling my wife about the issue...and she said..."so, basically...it could have caught on fire?" I'm like...hmmmm...you're right...maybe l'll go back out and remove the foam rubber piece and let the rubbing wire work its magic...lol
No work on the Disco, but I did wake up and drive it to work yesterday.
So nice to have 4wd and no amigos.
Also picked up my plates. I've been pushing to get "everything" done before the plates go on. So far I've done:
All of 60k tasks except spark wires & brake bleed.
PCV mod.
Fix amigos. (New SVS and Option B)
Fix heater (replaced power transistor.)
Fix exhaust leak (new gaskets).
Fix instrument cluster surround.
Fix rear speakers.
Fix (clean) rear door lock actuator.
Delete SLS compressor.
Delete "leftovers" from SAI system.
Rebuilt key w/ new plastic cover & battery.
New windshield washer squirters.
Repair broken IAT wire.
I bought my Disco (with nearly new tires) for $950. I was just looking for a beater second vehicle for occasional trailer or hauling duty. But it runs so smooth and feels so awesome to drive (and didn't have any fatal flaws) so I decided to fix it up right.

Did a transfer case solenoid delete over the weekend - pain in the butt. This is the second one I've done and it still took hours. I guess I need a friend with tiny little hands and arms with a mini tool set. Why oh why does Land Rover use 8mm bolts where they should be 10mm?!
