What i am doing today
Oil change and front brake pads. Going to do them MYSELF with the help of a friend's tools and oversight :) Normal stuff for most here however I'm just a girl
Switching from Mobil1 High Mileage synthetic 10w/40 to Rotella T 15w/40 (hoping to rid ticking noise - I am...a bit...behind on an oil change and I always use premium gas)...and installing Akebobo EUR676's, not sure what pads are on there currently (will I be able to determine that after pulling them? just curious to know what PO had on her). Using a jack to lift each side one at a time. Any tips to help me? Love you guys thanks for being on the journey with me ♥ |
Good choice on the pads. That's what I installed about 4 years ago and have had no problems.
If you have never changed brakes before, you might want to remove both wheels on the same axle so you can compare from side to side as you are doing the job. |
Thanks lordmorpheus. Working with only one jack, maybe I can come up with another to do that.
You're from my original neck of the woods. I was born in St. Louis, MO and moved to CA many moons ago. |
Sorry if this is obvious... You are going to change the oil filter as well, correct?
When you do, fill it with new oil and rub some on the rubber seal before tightening. Good luck. |
Left that tidbit out didn't I? Yes, replacing with a Purolator #L40316.

I was raised in West County St. Louis from age 2 to 19, then moved to Columbia to continue college and have remained here since.
Do you have jack stands? Hopefully so because working under a vehicle supported only by a jack is quite dangerous - if the jack gives out, bad things happen! |
Jack stands are a must. Safety first.
Harbor freight has them for cheap or try craigslist. Also forgot to mention there is an aluminum crush washer on the oil drain plug(15mm bolt head BTW). If you can get a new crush washer at the parts store that would be great. If not use the old one and try to crush it more than the last time to prevent leaks |
