I also see a lot of rotella 10w30 (Im trying to stick with dino oil over synthetic) That should be fine for the winter months no? Your input buzz?

As long as you are below 90F. But 10W40 would also work.

From what Ive read It seems the synthetic Rotella is the better choice for the cold as far as minimizing wear on our engines during startup. The synthetics have a much better viscosity when cold than the dino oil and the same viscosity when at operating temp.
Id like to know that my goods are getting nice and lubricated in wee hours of the morning.

Was in Turkey in the late 70's in the mountains in wintertime. The truckers just pull of the road to sleep and in the morning they light up propane stoves under the oil pan to heat things up!

ONE thing to remember about the rotella, its the diesel oil you want. Not just an oil by rotella.

True story. I'd run Mobil 1 turbo diesel oil in my D2 when it was on sale too. Nothing magic about the rotella brand, it just happens to be a good diesel oil.

Diesel oil is formulated for soot control. It keeps particles in suspension longer so your filter can trap it. The Rotella has a lot more ZDDP in the formula than most oils, that is a good thing for old flat tappet engines like the D1 and D2.

It won't make your truck sound like a diesel, and you won't get the mpg of a diesel. The EPA is probably tracking Rotella sales right now to narrow down the list of prime offenders.
