won't get out of PARK...

ok peeps... something wierd is happening to our 00 discoii (70k miles) and it just started this weekend. hope someone has some info on this one.

it wont go out of park. simple as that. i am pressing the button on the knob but it wont go out of park (P). i need to drive this bad boy.

i am also stepping on the brake. doing the usual things that worked before but now its stuck in park.

actually after trying a few times it comes out and i can put it to drive (d) or anywhere else. but when i shut it off again and start from scratch boom. its happening more often now.

what's going on? help please.

Welcome to the group.
Try something, have someone stand behind you when you put your foot on the brakes, do they come on, if not then you probably have a bad brake switch down by your foot brake pedal, cheap and easy to replace. There is also a solonoid located under the console that may have failed, but my bet is the brake switch.

How'd you make out with this? I'm going through the same thing with my 98 Disco I. Taking the break switches and cleaning them solves the park/lock problem, but my keys won't come out of the ingition.

To get the keys out of the ingition pop off the cap on the shifter you will have
to take the button out. In the bottom you will see the nut that holds
the handle on, that is loose just tighten it up and put it back together.
The little clip on top may not be in the right spot either.
This is most likely what is wrong as this is what happend to my brothers 98 Disco.
It took me 15 mins to fix.
