xyz/ shifter adjustment

Hi All,
So after replacing my battery, cables and having the Alt. checked I replaced my xyz switch to stop the M S flashing. I got it swapped out but now when I put it in to gear there is no red light. If I pull the release and push it forward just a bit the light comes on and all is good. In reverse it will not go into gear until the light comes on. How do I adjust the cable/switch? I did unhook the linkage (cable from the arm) for better access. This is an 03 D2 BTW.
Thanks,
Eric

Pull the cable tighter where is links to the XYZ Switch maybe?

I was thinking I may need to do that but I also noticed that the switch has slotted holes in it and was not sure if it had to be set a certain way.

It can adjust a little, but should sit really close considering it can only go on the shaft one way. I would try the cable first, then if it is tight and still not in position loosen and adjust the switch.

If the XYZ switch PRND321 linkage hasn’t been touched (13mm nut) I’d try loosening the 2 10mm bolts and move the XYZ switch one way, tighten it, test it, and if it still acts up then loosen it and try the other way. If that still doesn’t work then as a last resort try adjusting the 13mm nut/connecting rod slack. I’d mark it first & then do tiny adjustments.

I took the 13mm off and took the linkage apart. Yes I do realize that was a really dumb idea. So I guess I need to readjust it. Thank you all!

Ok then it won’t be bad. Just put it back together and pull it tight by hand, tighten and try it. It shouldn’t be hard to get just right.

I did that, too. You'll be fine.
