What electrical conversion kits are there? Im looking to do a halfway swap since my 4hp22 is not doing well and I want to do a 6.2l swap in the future, so for now I'm looking to swap a GM 8l90e into my discovery 1 and ride it until the engine gives out and then spring for the lt1 erod system.
A local shop quoted me $1500 for the labor but I'll need to bring them the electrical component to make the transmission pair to the ECU. I know i could do it myself but theyre saying I can pick it up next day and for that price, im in and I'll just continue going to work This is a great question with an interesting premise. Unfortunately, even though the Rover v8 is based on an old Buick v8, it shares precisely 0 mounting configurations with the GM platform. An 8L90 designed for an LT series engine will not simply bolt up to the Rover 4.0L v8. I would not recommend taking your vehicle to a shop who is telling you this can be done very simply, and for so cheap. My recommendation is to just buy a used 4HP22 that is known to work, and limp along that way. Save your money to buy the whole swap you want. Engine, trans, wiring, ECU, and everything else. Let me know if I am unclear and I can clarify any hazy areas. Happy Rovering! |
