2002 Freelander - Low beams very dim
 

Hi, I have a 2002 Freelander that I recently purchased. I tried to turn the headlights on the other day and realized they weren't working. At first I thought they weren't coming on, but soon realized that the low beams are just extremely dim. The high beams work just fine. I checked the fuses and relays. Any ideas as to the cause? I've heard this is common in these cars?

The low beam (also called the dipped beam) is on fuse 25 in the fuse panel inside the truck. The high beam is on fuse 18 of same panel.

Fuse 16 powers what is called a side light, but you may find this to be a very small bulb also mounted inside the head lamp. It comes on when the side marker lights do, usually in what is called parking light position. That small light is used in European cities where streets are narrow and light would go right into people's windows.

On the other side of the truck, the fuses are 20, 24, and 28.

You probably have burned out low beam sections of both bulbs, and the previous owner didn't catch on, because the city lights / side lights were on.
