Default Need help/direction with fluid replacement

Hi from your newest member

Im helping repair my girlfriends sons 04 Freelander. I know nothing about these cars, but volunteered to replace both front CV axles.

I watched a good video on Youtube, and did the replacement. Pretty simple job. I did not drain the fluid first, and just let it run out the holes on each side. I was not sure what to open to drain under the car. I could identify the oil pan/plug, but there are at least 2 other plugs.

After installing both axles, I opened the smaller (19mm?) plug on the passenger side and drained out about 3/4 quart more fluid. I then opened up the upper fill plug , which was next to impossible to access, and filled with 75w90 synthetic. It took about 1.25 quarts total.

Is this the only place i need to fill? Im just wondering how that fluid reaches the axle on the drivers side. On the drivers side there is a 24mm drain plug. I opened it briefly, and fluid drained. I believe this is transmission fluid? Its the photo with the ?. What fluid is this?

Ive attached photos, all taken looking back from the front bumper.

I did a short test drive and all seemed fine, with no leaks. I just want to make sure I have filled everything back as needed. So, it sits till I can confirm I did it correctly!

Thanks in advance
