freelander clutch

I have a 2003 td4 with which I sometimes tow a caravan. The caravan is well within the weight limits of the car but when reversing with the van the clutch burns and smells terrible for 2/3 days. I have been driving for 40 years and do not ride the clutch. If I slip the clutch at all to prevent stalling the cltch burns Have had clutch replaced under warranty but still happens
I thought a Landrover could tow backwards as well as forwards

would welcome comments

RE: freelander clutch

Hi, is it possible that the brakes on your caravan are being applied when you reverse, have you got some sort of anti reverse break system fitted to your van. I know on my caravan the coupling hitch slides in and out and is used to apply the brakes on the caravan when traveling. Hope this helps.
