Front left cv axle, What kind of oil

I replaced the front left cv axle which goes into the which inputs into the automatic gearbox, but when I took the old one out black oil came out(gear oil i think). The other shaft plugs into the ird so I know where to put that oil but im not sure what kind of oil the left side uses unless it uses ird through the primary ird shaft. Somebody please clarify this. I cant find an anwer anywhere:confused:

It’s generally better to make your own thread instead of necroing a 7 year old one.
That said, afaik the fluid that comes out when you pull the CV axles is transmission fluid.
Bodgit and Leggit Garage on YouTube has a pretty good video about changing CV axles on a Freelander. Their Freelander is a diesel model, but I don’t think they’re that different.
