Default Is it the nutreal safety switch

Okay my wife was driving home when she lost power coming up the last hill to our farm and the 2002 freelander just died at the top of the hill and would not start again now the starter sounds like its not engaging all the way but the altinator belts are turning when its being cranked over but the motor is not turning over fully what could this be?? I had the starter out and bench tested it and its fine lots of snap to it! Could it be the nuetral safety switch??

not likely the ns switch....or nothing would happen when you turn the key......what shape is the battery in ?, have you had it tested ?, and make sure the alternator is actually charging the battery for starters....no pun intended
