Rear Differential dry ?

Driving home yesterday I could hear the rear end starting to whine louder then normal then suddenly a bearing spun out and the noise was real loud.
I limped home and checked the oil level in the rear diff but it was dry
Now the question is should I try to put a new pinion bearing in it or look for a used rear differential

id look for a used one, if you ran it dry for long enough to toss a bearing, theres probably more damage then you see

found one

got a diff and now have to install what should I look out for and is it a hard job to do?

it needs to be aligned correctly. there is a special tool, a jig that holds the diff, that the dealer has. you should also check all your mounts for the diff, they go bad occasionally, make sure the rubber isnt cracked. if it is, replace that mount, and also replace the lower engine stabilizer bushing

Found a used differential from wreckers with 70k on it 05 same gear ratio came with mounts works good again 320k on the body

also wanted to say that the pinion bearing went out and found alot of wear on the gears with chipped teeth, engine change at 200k tranny change at 300k and I clear a lot of codes still drives mint.
