Will not move in any gear
I changed my oil today, and put a little too much oil. So I drained it to the right levels, then turned it on. I put it into R and it won't move. I put it into Drive and it won't move. The parking brake is off by the way. Anybody know what's wrong? Should I drain more oil?

1. You did drain engine oil and not red transmission fluid?

Hmmm, yea, I think that might be the problem. How much transmission fluid should I put in since I drained the whole thing apparently? Man do I feel stupid right now...

This is not an easy problem to fix. The RAVE has a set of procedures to follow, this is not Dad's F150, where you pour it in thru a funnel, etc. Read all the attached pages, and please download the whole RAVE, you'll find Freelander in there.
Only thing I see out of normal is reference to temp being 35 - 45 degrees, but that must be C, not F. Now, if you drained the tranny, thinking it was oil drain, did you put motor oil back into engine or tranny? If engine, check dipstick, and you must be way over filled, crankshaft can strike surface of oil pool. If you put motor oil into tranny we have a much bigger issue. Would not crank truck until more is known. |

Here are pages on oil drain, for the three various engines that come in Freelanders.
