03 Range rover HSE Pinging noise when turned on?!

Hi, my 03 range rover HSE makes a noise when being turned on. I am not sure how to explain it other than a rattle or pinging noise it's just right when it is starting and sounds like it may be coming from the left front side but not sure? Please help thanks! -Sarah

The chattering is caused by a worn out vanos check valve. Not sure if you're savvy enough to replace one, but I suggest taking it to the dealers to replace it or a your local mechanic.

You can also do a search for chatter. Should bring up tons of thread as it's a common problem.

Does it almost instantly go away? Or does it stay for awhile?

It instantly goes away it is just for the second that it is starting and that's all.....

BTW thanks for the response, if that's what it is the vanos valve thing is that expensive to replace??
