2006 Range rover transmission problem

i have a 2006 range rover hse and my transmission is stuck on 3rd gear. im driving and its normal for a while then it just starts going from 4,5, 6 all the way down to 3 and i won't move from there even when i come to a complete stop. when i turn the vehicle off and on again it then goes back to normal for a while but then it starts doing the same thing again. i have done the transmission filter change it has 95000 miles. does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not an expert on the MarkIII RRs. but I might suspect the transmission computer. It either needs to be reset (sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will do it) or replaced. Have you checked your fuses? I know on the P38 (my model) that the MAF sensor can cause awkward shifting, I'm sure after 95k miles your MAF sensor needs a good cleaning anyways.

well it all started after i did a cleaning to the throttle body then i bought a new thorotle body thinking it might change but nothing still the same. i will check the fuses but i don't think the transmisson is bad because its shifting fine when its cold after a while then it starts acting up.

Mine does a similar thing but the governor on the back of my transmission is slowly going out. Did you ensure the MAF sensor was bypassed during this proceedure? If that throttle body cleaner hit the MAF sensor, you probably toasted it. Did you notice a drop in engine performance and fuel economy? It could be unrelated to the transmission, however I do know the P38 relies heavily on the MAF (NO Idea why) to know when to shift. The L322 might be a different story.

Well i put a new throttle that brings the sensor with it. but it stll does the same thing its very strange what it does because as soon as it starts doing that i turn it off and it like resets and its fine for a few minutes im thinking of cleaning the valve body and checking the solenoids.

If you replaced the throttle and a sensor came with it, that is most likely the throttle position sensor and not the MAF sensor. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is right after the filter and measures the amount of air being sent into the engine so it can properly gauge the fuel to air ratio.

no a valve body won't help. You need a bit of diagnosis to have all the codes read. Why would you throw parts at a vehicle without diagnosing anyway?

Your description isn't that helpful to the problem and it would help to actually see what happens to diagnose the vehicle.

What it's telling me is po785 and it still says limited gears available. And still gets stuck on 3rd gear..
