Hail Damage on a Lease
 

I had some minor hail damage (couple of very small marble dents) on the roof of the car during a hail storm. I didn't notice it anywhere else but it stands to reason that there is probably damage is on other parts of the car also.

While it is hardly noticable, my Range Rover is under lease and I am wondering what kind of impact this may have at the lease termination??? Should I run this by insurance?

The roof of the RR I believe is aluminum so you might not notice it anywhere else. How bad is it? Because, if it s really bad it can be a problem but, most of the time they will take it back without any issues. I would not get insurance involved unless they state "it won't raise your premium" otherwise it might not be a bad idea to take it to a local body shop and get an estimate.

Thanks for the input. From a preliminary look it is not bad but if you look closely (like they will at a lease return) you will notice it. I didn't notice anywhere else on the car and now I understand why (aluminum is only used on the roof).

I thought that insurance might see it as an "Act of God" but wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with this first.

Unfortunately, the roof is not the only aluminum component. Recently, my 2004 HSE was side-swiped by a careless driver in a parking lot, leaving a 3 foot gouge in the passenger side front and rear doors. Since they are aluminum, the shop opted to replace rather than repair them, at a total cost of $5700. Thank goodness for insurance.

Wow that is expensive. I didn't know that the Rover used so much aluminum but it makes sense to keep weight down.

Having been in the car businees for 30 years, I have to tell you, this vehicle is not owned by you and if you don't fix it, they will and they usually always charge more then what you might find.
Do the repairs, otherwise they will.

Luxury1, I think your need to repair it will depend on just how bad it is. If it is just a couple of small dings, I wouldn't worry about it. If, however, there is more extensive damage, then yes, I would repair it.

Do you have the "Dent Wizard" where you live? This company specializes in paintless dent removal.

The dent wizard is exactly what I was thinking. They took a few dents out of my LS and did a great job.
