Key Won't Turn

Key Won't Turn
Hello everyone... I'm the proud owner of an L322 2005 Range Rover HSE, which is driving me crazy of late! still love her!
I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Tried to look for the issue I have but nothing specific to mine showed up.
I went to start my car this morning and the key just wouldn't turn... the steering wheel is of course heavy but the locking mechanism isn't working either (meaning I can turn the steering quite a bit with a little power). The battery is ok since the stereo and other electric features still work. I read on somewhere here that it might be the ignition key assembly as a whole that will need replacing... I'm hoping its something a little less costly.
Any ideas? Even towing it is problematic as I can't get the gear into Neutral.. any ideas on how to put it manually into Neutral?
Thanks for the help

your battery might be dead. They are big and when they are really dead they don't like to take a jump from just any battery pack. Hook one up to see if it will turn on. if not then you have a problem with the steering wheel module apart of the column. Seen that one blow the fuse and cause a no start situation.

If your steering is unlocked, but the key won't turn, you're most likely looking at a bad steering lock ECU, controls both, and not uncommon failure. I do not believe it's available separate from the entire column.
To engage neutral, you need to pop off the shift surround. Make a fist, hit down towards the floor on the shifter itself, then pull up, takes a little force, but it'll come. Then pop off the surround that the leather clips into, a couple connectors at the back, once removed, there is a lever on the side of the shifter, move it, and the shift shaft will release and you can select neutral.

Thanks for the info guys... will try to set it into Neutral first and see how that goes. Is the steering wheel module the same as the steering angle sensor? sorry for the noob question. I will also check on the Steering Lock ECU.
I'll keep you posted. The tricky part is getting the car out of the basement car park... wish me luck!
