Lost 1998 Range Rover Key
 

I lost my range rover key. I don't have any spares.

Can i buy a new uncut key+fob with electronics from ebay

Part num 68 0A 1 820711002 22552

and can any locksmith cut that key?

Does the key need to be programmed?

Can i program it myself? With no other keys?

Is the dealer the only one that can program this key?

Call dealer. They may have forms for you to fill out, bring registation, etc.

I have a standard key with no fob for both my p38s (fob key combo is stored in the gun safe). The dealer is the best place to get them. That being said...you will have to have proof of ownership, DNA sample, birth certs, NCIC back ground check and a current passport, but they can do it on site :D. LR Richmond was $40 per.
If you just "have" to have the fob.....bring KY.

dealer wanted $300 for the remote+key and $150 to program it

I noticed whenever my battery died i had to unlock the door then start the car...Does that mean a chip is required? or is that normal procedure?

Any insurance coverage for theft, etc.?

You dont need programming. tell them not to program the key. it comes preprogrammed. All you need is to stick it in the door to get it to program.

Actually you don't need a chip to start the car. its just a plain key. its just laser cut. and even the dealer can't cut the key or knows the key code. Just ask for a valet key. no need to program it. If the car is in lockdown mode cause you superlocked it then you need the dealer to unlock the becm. But at that point it has to be towed to them. If the vehicle isn't superlocked and you need to get in I can help you. if the battery is dead do not jump it without following these rules first. remove the battery and have it charged. secondly have it reinstalled and then make sure the door is open but the door is latched as if it was closed and relocked. Then before reconnecting make sure the hood switch is pushed in so it thinks the hood is down. That way you fool the vehicle into thinking the system is still armed. Then lock and unlock it using the key in the door and it should unlock. at that point you can start the car if its not locked with a remote. if it is you will have to reprogram a remote that you have to buy. basically you can program the remote by using the remote itself. No programming is needed whatsoever.

I am new to this forum and found good information here. I have a 98' p38 with 110k on it and am having issues becm. Which from what I find seems to be their demise unless I spend more than what the vehicle is worth to replace it and reprogram it @ the dealer. I cannot seem to find any threads pertaining this any help would be greatly appreciated
