Default Possibly bad AC Compressor

During the summer it was not bad, but now when the ac clutch is not engaged i hear a annoying winding sound. As soon as I make the compressor work the sound goes away. I seem to think its my ac compressor. I found some on ebay and have heard that the O rings should be replaced when the compressor is changed out. Can anyone confirm this and if so where can I get the o rings and if there is anything else that I need to take to my mechanic to make the install easier...

thanks

I'm sure your mechanic will be able to figure out where the noise is coming from. When mine was whining, it turned out to be the alternator.
