Question Do I Need A New Radiator?

Have a 1999 Range Rover 4.0 SE. I have a very small leak in the top of the radiator where the small hose leaves the tank to the overflow reservoir. Crack is at the connection, on the tank side. Can this be repaired or must I get a new radiator? Had a mechanic attempt to put some sort of patch on it but the leak persists. He seemed to think the only other solution was a new radiator. Seemed an odd place for a crack to appear. Any ideas!
