RRC Vs Disco
 

I've got a 98 Disco but just picked up an 89 RRC. I know the axles on this RRC are 10 spline so how much weaker are they than the 24 spline axle's???. I WAS going to make my disco a semi hardcore off-road rig but now I'm thinking to make the RRC more of my off-road toy since its oldr and in considerbly worse shape. I want to run some 32-33" tires max but wonder if the 10 splines will hold up if I'm not an idiot. Also I hear the RRC's dont haver a CDL but on mine there is a CDL lever and a red light that illuminates when you lock it in so.......???????

I don't know about the over sized tires and the splines. LR designed the thing to go off road so that is exactly what it should do. You might be able to swap the diffs out with 24 spline ones if the 10s go out on you.

As far as the CDL, it will either have one you can manually engage, or it will have a viscous coupling that is essentially an "automatic cdl". If you crawl underneath and look on the back of the transfer case, and notice a thick metal disc in between the TC and the drive shaft, then you have a VC.
