shopping different years RR models, questions please
#11
Honestly, the best thing to consider is mileage when considering a Range Rover. A few extra bucks at the beginning to find a low mileage, fully documented Rangie could save thousands in unexpected repairs. I have an '08 Range Rover Supercharged and have had very few problems. I have heard about "hit and miss" '03 - '05s. I also have a '99 Range Rover 4.6HSE (P38) and they are two very different trucks, but both awesome! I don't think I'd give either of them up. If you are interested in the P38 models, they may have some problems, but all the problems are VERY common and every Land Rover dealer or independent shops know the typical problems. The air suspension on the older P38s is great for ride and off-road articulation, but were prone to problems; even if you maintain them. A coil-over suspension conversion kit is usually a good idea when bags or the compressor fails and I have seen very slight off-road difference. There is, however, a big on-road difference. Without the air suspension, the P38 may feel quite a bit like your Expedition as that generation still does have solid axles.
