Trailer wiring harness
Hi all!!
I'm a new owner of a '01 Range Rover. I was shocked when it didn't come with a trailer wiring harness but got over it and bought one and installed it myself. Install went great until I started the car and shorted out a 30amp fuse that runs A/C, Navigation unit, radio, etc. I cannot understand what I'm doing wrong. Helpppppp !!! |
RE: Trailer wiring harness
How did you wire that in? I just installed a trailer wiring kit on my '95. I pulled the tailights out, used a test light to find each wire that I needed (needed 1 brake, 1 right turn, 1 left turn, 1 ground, and one just 12v.) The kit I installed was from U-Haul and it went in with about an hour worth of pulling the lights out, probing wires, putting on the splices, and then hanging the wires so it looked nice. I would guess that you probably have a ground and a brake or 12v switched.
Did the fuse blow right away? Did it blow when you used turn signal or brake? |
RE: Trailer wiring harness
It blows right away after starting the car up. I bought and installed the factory OEM kit from the dealer. I followed the instructions explicitly...even the part where they supply a 15 amp fuse to replace the 20 amp factory fuse for the rear trailer/lights, etc. It seems odd to go down in amps but ok I did it. The fuse that blows is the 30amp that controls the A/C, navigation, radio, etc.

RE: Trailer wiring harness
Did you ever solve this problem? I just bought the same kit and I am having the same exact problem.
