03 RR HSE : wet pass floor, no audio etc, faint burnt electric odor...

Hello all. First post as a new member, but I have used this & other LR forums as invaluable sources of info for quite some time. Much thanx.

My wife's 2003 RR HSE has ~127k on it &, subsequently, has displayed most of the many common & typical LR problems & quirks that we've dealt w/ accordingly. As a lifelong "car guy" (air-cooled VW thru late-model Audi), I try to do much of the work myself. Anything beyond my availability of time &/or patience is sent to the dealer for diagnostics as necessary, then to a buddy's local shop. The list of issues & services is endless... yet we still love it will most certainly buy another.

On to the problem du jour...

Left it parked for 2 days in the driving rain. It's usually garaged. My wife left & I got a call a minute later; the radio was dead, no turn signal indicators, airbag light, etc. This has happened in the past & usually clears up in a few hours. Another call telling me that the alarm went off a few times while she was getting her nails done. Hmm... odd. Oh well. An hour later a frantic call. Car full of acrid smoke. She aired it out while I grabbed the fire extinguisher & 10mm for the battery cable. 5 mins later I was there. Nasty electric stench & haze of gray smoke. Pulled the rear panels; no water. Pulled up the mats; passenger side soaked. I thought the worst: fried fuse box &/or harness. I started it & everything besides the audio, etc. seemed to work fine & no fireworks, pops, or buzzes.

Got it home in the garage & pulled the battery & tray to check for firewall leaks. Found a deformed grommet directly under the wiper tray drain so hopefully that's where the water came from. Fuse panel was dry. I pulled the passenger seat & trim panels out, then pulled up the front carpet/padding & everything was dripping soaked. Aired it out w/ fans for 2 days. After everything was 100% dry, it went back together, but still no audio, indicators, etc. I drove it all day yesterday w/ windows & roof open & LR compartment does seem to smell worse than the rest now that it's had time to air out. Besides the HK amp/processor, what else could've fried to cause these issues?

Any similar experiences &/or advice? Thank you in advance.
