06' LR3 Navigation DVD unit won't read DVD

When I start my 06' LR3 HSE I get a message on the display reading "Please insert map DVD" instead of showing the actual map on my display.

I tried hitting the eject button on the actual navigation DVD unit under the driver's seat, but I can't get the disc to eject. I then brought it to my local Landrover dealer and they couldn't get the disc to eject either. They suggested I take it to a car audio place that could take the unit out and take it apart to get the disc out.

I called a car audio place in my area and they said they won't know anything until they look at it and take it apart. Even then, there is a good chance that a simple eject and re-inserting the DVD won't cut it. It will likely need to be sent into however manufactured the unit itself.

So, does anyone know who manufactures the navigation DVD unit in the 06's LR3?

Before I pay anyone else anything more, I wanted to check with guys to see if you have any suggestions at this point. Should I now take it to the car audio place to remove and take the unit apart?

Or would you do anything else at this point?

Thanks!

You can remove the unit yourself, you just have to put the seat forward and backward. Then by some really small screwdrivers and take it apart to see what is going on. Then you can find out if it is bad or not when you try again. If its bad, check in your area for audio unit refurbishment. They send those units out to a place in Syracuse, ny.

I don't understand why the dealer would send you someplace else. The unit is defective, it needs to be serviced and this is what they're supposed to do. Nobody else is going to want to do it.

If you like, here are some shop manual pages on how to get it out, how it works, etc. Bet the audio shop hourly rate is a fraction of the stealership.

And here is something on a boot up problem, it shows that Denso is the source.

Its out of warranty.
They are not electronics experts.
They cant charge a hours rate for a 10min fix.

Thank you guys very much for the great information. I am selling the vehicle and was trying to get this resolved for the new prospective buyer. I have worked out with the buyer to sell the car the way it is and he will get the navigation fixed.

He is much more mechanically inclined than I am so hopefully he can take it out and get it working.

I will direct him to this thread to look over the great information you guys provided.

Thanks again!!!

The connector is on the back of the unit, easily accessed from under the seat. Unplug it, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in, see if it will now eject the disc. Also make sure the fuses are OK.

If you swap NAV units with a used one, make sure you go into the settings menu and run the calibration (GPS location and tire rolling diameter).
