1996 Disco alarm system removal?
 

Has anyone removed they entire alarm system from their Disco? I have a 1996 that has the dreaded intermittent "no crank" syndrome. I really have no need for an alarm system in this vehicle. I got it with no fobs.
I'm wondering about any ideas about why I shouldn't remove the entire system (other than obvious 'no security system' comments). For at home, my dog and 1911 would provide the needed security, and for away, "the club" is very effective.
I would obviously have to make sure the key was wired to the starter solenoid, and have power to the fuel pump.
Would simply by-passing the spider accomplish the same thing?

This may be your problem if there is no spyder unit behind the radio. Mine has always cranked (so far) but with the other electrical issues, I don't need more possible problems.

Thanks, I tried the two wires at the ecu yesterday and then I got a crank and no fire condition, which leads me to believe I do have a spyder (I hate spiders!). I'm going to look in the dash today. I really like my Disco, but dispise all the relays and such! I'm old enough to remember vehicles without all of the "improvements", lol!

Start on page 292 of 556 in the 1996 circuits manual. There is no spider. The alarm module has to send a coded signal to the ECU to immobilze or remobilize. This is not a dry relay or single voltage point. It is a coded signal with about 65,000 possible values.

You could try the 1515 EKA code with the door key.
