2000 Discovery 2 No start after head gasket replacement
Hello all
I finally signed up on this site after using it countless times over the years! :) I need some help!!! I just finished replacing my head gaskets and was so anxious to fire it up!! But it is not getting any spark. Here is everything I can think of. #1 I didn't think about setting it to TDC when I started tearing it apart. I always do this!!! But because of the crank position sensor and pointless ignition I went ahead and did the job without moving the engine, since I had just taken the heads off when I realized my mistake. #2 I removed the auxiliary air injection. The copper tubing was bad. And plugged the ports with nice little steel plugs I found exact fit at ACE. #3 I didn't mark the position of the throttle cables, however afterwards I set them to the .1 and .5 MM gaps on the cable cam. #4 I never unplugged the crank position sensor. #5 I bled off the fuel manifold, with the key on, but only got a teeny bit of air. #6 I am not hearing the fuel pump kick on at all. #7 I have checked all fuses but dont have a code reader. #8 I have triple checked and removed the coil packs twice to check my wires were plugged in correctly. Even tho if it was firing, it would at least pop a little! #9 I have disconnected the battery and ran a wire from neg to pos to reset the codes! Oh it did hit a little with starter fluid the first time I did this but did not start!! Which tells me I may be wrong that it is fuel not spark. #10 I GIVE UP AND SNOW IS COMING! Please help I cant lose any more hair!! Thanks Allen Haha I keep adding to this post! I bought the D2 for 700 with a heating issue and some front end deer damage. It wasnt over heating or building pressure until I climbed the mountain to my house. a 2000ft climb. I replaced the grille, hood, and front bumper with 03 parts. It has a 2" coil lift. Black leather super clean interior! Super straight dark red body with all the bells and whistles!! Much better shape than my 96. |
Did you reset the inertia switch?
Shouldn't have to worry about setting it to TDC. If you don't take off any of the timing gear you're not disturbing anything mechanical that would make this necessary. |
Thanks Mollusc
I just read a post about the inertia switch! So that's what that thing is!! I will definitely try it tomorrow!! Thanks so much!! |
Well when I reset the inertia switch I heard a relay switch kick on etc. So that was good and I did get a little bit of air from the fuel pressure release needle valve but not much.
i did finally pull a spark plug like I shouldve done long ago... and no spark. So I have no idea where to go from here. |
Crank angle sensor, it's a common failure point.
On the bell housing, behind the left side (drivers) exhaust manifold. It's underneath a cover, you can't miss it. Bring small hands. |
Sounds like my next option racerx I just dont under stand why it was fine before I did the head gaskets and I never even unplugged it. I just tried the alarm reset and it only beeped on the lock position so I am reading that means it is not immobilized but I also read that it kills the spark and the fuel pump when it is immobilized. I am just about ready to give this vehicle away!! I heard of disco 2 computer related gremlins just always thought I could deal with them.

The only thing I can think of next is to buy a odb2 code reader and resetter. I really wish I could plug it up to my laptop or something!
Actually I am starting to think that I should not have removed the secondary air injection!!! What a mess!! |
