2001 Disco
 

I have never had any issues with my Disco, but I went out yesterday morning, and she won't start. It cranks strong, but doesn't fire. I sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body, and it still won't start. A friend stopped by and read the codes, P0455, P1175 & P1591. Any initial advice on where to start looking?!

Crank position sensor aka CKP.

Thank you for the advice. I looked in the workshop manual, and it seems to be an easy repair, but it says, after replacing, to reset adaptations per test book. What does this mean, and is it something I can do myself?

Testbook is a Land Rover software found at dealers/indy shops. I only replaced my sensor. No testbook. Sensor is somewhat of a pain...lots of swearing. When installing, proper order is the sensor, then spacers, then nuts.


Most people have to disconnect/reconnect harness from above. There is a heat shield I had to move out of the way. Helps to have 2 people but can be done with one. The connector for the sensor is attached to a mounting clip to hold it in place. I removed connector from clip in order to separate male/female ends of connector using a screwdriver. I looped a scrap piece of wire around the sensor (once removed from the housing) because I could not get a hand on the sensor while trying to disconnect the it's connector. But that way I could pull on the scrap piece of wire with one hand and slide the other hand up to the connector to separate. Good luck!!!

Also make sure inertia switch did not get tripped somehow. It's located on the firewall passenger side of engine compartment. Has a rubber button top that pushes down to reset. If that doesn't resolve it, I would check for fuel pressure and spark (because these are free to do) before replacing sensor.
