2013 LR4 - Control Arm Bushing Question
 

Hello, I hope someone can help me! My wife had her LR4 rear-ended the other day. When we got the car home I noticed fluid leaking from the front control arm bushing. Never had leaked prior to the accident, however, started leaking after the accident (I notice the fluid in the driveway 30 minutes after the accident). When the other persons Insurance Claim Adjuster looked at my wifes car, he said that it may not be covered because it likely was not caused by the accident. Question: Does anyone know if a rear end impact would cause the front control arm bushing to leak. As an FYI....The trailer hitch on the LR4 took the brunt of the impact. Enough to take a chunk of metal out of it! Thanks for any help!

It would be a reach to say they are related. How many miles are on the vehicle? My passenger lower bush puked it's guts about 4 months ago (have not changed, will wait for the inevitable clunking lol).

You would probably never be able to prove that it was or wasn't. Energy from an impact has to be transferred somewhere, as you can neither create of destroy energy. There are many paths in the vehicle for energy to go and to the front suspension is very possible, but with no signs of damage in between the impact point and the supposed failure point, seems unlikely.
On the flip side, with the front brakes applied and the vehicle moved in an unusual manner from the impact, it could have caused one of the bushings to hyper extend and split, releasing its contents.
Lots of assumptions and theory, no real way to prove. They were eventually going to fail anyway, so if your best shot didn't work, might just have to suck it up.
