advice on batteries
 

I'm in the market for a new battery, not sure why my old battery gave up the ghost, the 6 aux lights and and 2 subs probably didn't do anything to help the situation... Any ways as I was wondering if anyone has a brand or model of batterie that they could recommended. Oh I'm planning on adding. Winch down the line...

Lot of options, but one to avoid is Optima. They appear to have taken a serious nose dive in quality since being bought by Johnson Controls and mfg moved to mexico.

duralast (autozone) yellow top has a 800-900 cca battery that can be bought for just over $100.00. There is diehard marine battery that people say are great but they are close to $300.00

The 34 series Sears Platinum Marine battery is at the top of my list, followed by the Yellow Top if winching a lot or the Red Top for a good general battery.

Are you looking for just occasional winch use? Like to get yourself, or someone else, unstuck and not a lot of repeated winching with little charge time? If so the Sears Platinum P4 would serve you well as it's designed to handle deep discharge better than "normal" starting batteries. It's the same as the Odyssey pc1500

Another thing to allow for is multiple connections. Most batteries don't do well with high current loads on the side terminals (Optima says don't do it), the Platinum/Odyssey batteries being an exception, both side top terminals support full current draw.

Thanks all! I bought a Duracell AGM, 3 year warranty and a 8 year prorated warranty. The main reason I went with this battery is that its an AGM, not a lead acid. This way if I flip her, the acid won't leak out!

Can you give us a link to that battery or at least the rating and price for it.

The Duracell AGM is made by East Penn, the folks who make Dekka, which has a good reputation.
It would be interesting to know how they compare, spec-wise.

The battery it self only cost $112, $124 with out the core charge. I'll try to post a link when I get to a computer.

i havent see Duracell in a long time, you used to be able to get them at Costco's. I had one in a yard truck I could let it it sit for 10-11 months and go out and it would start and the clock still kept time.

I went back to buy one for the Disco and all they sold was Ac/delco batteries
