Default Alaska limp mode.

Just got a 2003 Land Rover that is stuck in limp mode. The key won't come out of the ignition untill I disconnect the battery. It looks like a brand new xyz switch I tried to adjust it and the red light just blinked for a second. Battery is getting 14.4 volts running. Nobody too take it to here so I'm on my own help me

It could be the transmission ECU under the driver's seat beneath the amplifier, or it could be that you need to take the black cover off of your xyz switch, clean all of its internal electrical contacts, and insure that the microswitches can still be depressed (no overly-worn areas, etc.).

Depending on the model of your xyz switch you may need to drill out rivets to get in there, no big deal.

I would think that the easiest 2 ways to test your transmission ecu would be:

#1: put your transmission ecu into a different running, good Discovery to see if it causes the limp home mode there, or
#2: swap in a $22 used transmission ecu from eBay to see if the limp home disappears.
