Auto gearbox 3rd gear

Angry Auto gearbox 3rd gear

Ok I'm new to this so hi everyone I have a 2000 td5 discovery and it seems to get stuck in 3rd gear sometime if I go for a run get home go into revers and into drive it go's into 3rd gear turn it off and on and it will be back in first gear again iv changed the oil and filter today went a large run all went well revers forward no problem got home revers then drive and boom 3rd gear help please

Might want to examine the XYZ switch itself (full of water/mud), or linkage to it. The tranny is electronic, but ECU depends on the mechanical linkage and switch to tell it what you want the truck to do.

Has it been real cold where you are, if so and this happens after cold starts, it is most likely the govenor sticking. Do you have a service engine light on, if so, go get the codes read and get back to us with the fault code number.

hi thanks for reply theres no light on dash and theres no gear selection on dash its not showing what gear your in like D R N 1 2 3 dont know what is wrong any ideas

Start by checking the battery and generator voltage.
Then check the gearbox fluid level.
Then look into the XYZ switch.
I assume this is a Disco II and not a Disco I.

yes sorry its a disco 2 td5 i take it tha the gear box is ok just mibby needing some parts this is my first land rover and i love it just we ****ly bits with it need done

New battery fitted volts are 14.4v think al put a xyz switch in it see if that works
