Brake light switch; square peg in round hole
1995 D1, manual transmission. I need to replace the brake switch for the second time, and the replacement I got needs a square hole whereas the old switch(s) required a round hole. B-P says all they have are like my new one.
Anyone faced this problem? Solution? I'm going to check NAPA, looking for a miracle as inspection is about to expire. TIA |
I think you want a Standard Motor Products SLS-259. NAPA can cross.
I'm not at home or I'd go look at mine for you. |
Thanks Tom, but that part is just like what I got. Fits a square hole, and the hole in my Disco is round.
If it weren't in such an awkward spot, I'd file it to make this switch fit. |
I just went out and looked at mine. It's a Hella, try PN: 6DD 008 622-521

Looked under the dash with a flashlight to see how difficult it would be to grind the round hole square, and lo and behold, I saw additional holes in the bracket above the one in which the old switch was mounted.
One was square! The switch I received (and looks like SLS-259 that Tom mentioned) fit right in. Live and learn. |
Ha. Sounds like you ran in to a SPOT, Stupid Previous Owner Trick.
|
No, the hole has been there from the factory.
I AM the SPO! |
The round hole is the Cruise Control switch.
